October 24-28, 2016 Week 10

Let's hear it for the nice weather!  YAY!  We are loving it because it's so nice when we go out to recess.  I hope you all enjoyed your fall weather this past weekend too!

This week we will read a realistic fiction story called "The Farmer in the Hat."  Our reading skills are to read long a words; read soft c, soft g words; recognize cause and effect; identify proper nouns; and practice Saxon phonics.

In Math we will continue to work on place value up to 99. We will use manipulatives, draw pictures and compare and order numbers up to 99.

In Science we will explore force and motion.  We will test objects and decide how they move, is it push or pull? We will also use magnets to explore movement.

In Social Studies for the next couple of weeks we will learn about American Symbols and remember traditions.   We will identify symbols, traditions, customs, anthems, and mottoes of America. We will explore what celebrations we have in America.  We will make a Bald Eagle, American Flag, Liberty Bell, and the Statue of Liberty.

We learned how to write a friendly letter.  We learned that a letter has a date, greeting, body, and a closing.  We were so excited to write a friendly letter to our parents.  I hope that you all received your letter in the mail!

October 17-21, 2016 Week 9

Hello everyone!  Can you believe that this is the 9th week of school?  It will be Thanksgiving and Christmas before we know it!  :)

This week we will read a story that is animal fantasy called "A Big Fish for Max."  We will blend and read words with digraphs sh, and th; sequence and put story events in order; identify common nouns; write a friendly letter; and practice saxon phonics.

FYI...parents we will write a friendly letter to YOU!   Watch for our letters in the mail.  :)

In Math we will start working on numbers up to 99 and since last week was a short week we will also continue to practice telling time to the hour.

In Science we will continue identifying the 3 states of matter: liquid, solid, gas


In Social Studies we will learn about good citizens such as Benjamin Franklin, Clara Barton and Eleanor Roosevelt.


On Friday's we get ipads...

October 10-14, 2016 Week 8

Once again I am excited because I have a new grandson that was born on Tuesday.  His name is Karter and we are so blessed that he has come into our lives! As you can tell I am a proud "Gandee!"   Blessed beyond measure!

                         BRAVO CLASS!
 Congrats to the boys and girls for being so great with the sub on Tuesday.  She said they were awesome and that she wished every class was like them.  That made me proud!  I don't like leaving them but I am thrilled to know that they are on their best behavior while I'm away!  Yay class!!!

This is a short week for us and we are working double time to cover our skills for the week.  

We will read "Animal Park."  We discussed why the author wrote the story and if the story was real or make-believe.  Our reading skills are blend and read words with short u; identify cause and effect; recognize final blends in words; discuss antonyms; Saxon phonics; and identify and write exclamatory sentences.

In Math we will tell time to the hour using analog and digital clocks.

In Science we will continue discussing properties and matter.

In Social Studies we will continue good citizens. We will discuss Benjamin Franklin, Clara Barton and Eleanor Roosevelt.

October 3-7, 2016 Week 7

REPORT CARD CONFERENCES...We will have report card conferences on October 10.  It will be for students that are failing or have behavior concerns.  I will send notes home tomorrow.  If you don't receive a note it is because your child is on grade level and doing a good job in class.  If you don't get a note and you would like to conference please contact me.  

THIS WEEK IN LEARNING...
We will read "Get the Egg!"  It is a made-up story that could really happen.  Our reading skills are blend and read short e words; read words with blends; recognize the main idea and details in a story; identify and write interrogative sentences (asking sentences);  read and discuss fairy tales and folktales; and practice daily Saxon Phonics.

 Math ~ Add and Subtract numbers up to 10.

 Science ~ 3 states of matter  (liquid, solid, gas)

 Social Studies ~ Exemplifying Good Citizenship
