April 3-7, 2017 Week 30

Happy April!  I hope that everyone had a great weekend!  This week I hope that things slow down a bit.  Last week we had a lot going on!  On Tuesday A-Team qualifiers went to the Dairy Museum, we took the STAR Literacy test on Wednesday (different from the STAAR test), and on Friday we rotated through other first grade classrooms during Reading Marathon!
WHEW!  That's a mouth full!

A-Team at Dairy Museum

On Monday we will complete our reading test over last week's story "A Southern Ranch."

This week we will read "Peter's Chair."  It is realistic fiction that has make-believe characters who act like real people.  Our reading skills are to blend and read words with vowels digraphs ue, ew, ui; identify theme; recognize compound words; identify adjectives; and learn how to look up words in a dictionary/glossary; and practice Saxon Phonics.

In Math we will continue 3D shapes and begin our unit on Measurement.  We will measure using nonstandard units like measuring with paper clips, cubes, marshmallows, etc.

In Science we will learn about the basic needs of plants.  We will identify plant parts and grow our own plant.

In Social Studies we will identify places on a map and learn the 4 cardinal directions.
