February 2-6, 2015 Week 21

Will the groundhog see his shadow?  We will find out tomorrow morning.  Let's hope for spring weather soon!
Monday morning...And YES to answer that question he does see his shadow.  The saying is six more weeks of winter weather!

On Thursday we will be celebrating the 100th day of school!  I hope that you will help your child create something that represents the number 100!  You can make a necklace, a picture frame, glue 100 candies, pennies, or other small objects to a board or to yourself!   Just have fun creating and I can't wait to see all the cute crafts!  The school board members will come to judge the projects and the top 10 winners will get a special prize in the office.

This week in learning we will read "Where Are My Animal Friends?"  It is a fictional play about animal friends that live in the forest.  Our skills will be to blend and read words with comparative endings -er, -est; consonant pattern -dge; draw conclusions; read contractions; and practice decoding, reading and comprehending words from Saxon Phonics.

In Math we will identify coins.  We will learn what the front and back of a penny, nickel, dime, and quarter look like.  We will count like amounts of coins.

In Science we will learn about recycling. Students will learn how to reduce, reuse, and recycle paper, plastic and metals.

In Social Studies we will continue our focus on landforms, and natural resources. We will learn how to conserve our natural resources.

We will have our Valentine Party on Friday, February 13 at 2-2:30.  We will have ice cream and cupcakes.  Please send $2.00 to help pay for the cost of the party items.

Please send Valentine cards that morning with your child.  We will exchange them in the morning, so that during the party we can eat our goodies.  I sent a list of the student's names on the back of Monday's newsletter.

We are so happy to be 100 days smarter!
