April 10-14, 2017 Week 31

This will be our last week of homework!  While school work should always come first I still believe that children should have time for extracurricular activities as well.  I know that many in our class are playing baseball, softball and involved in other spring activities.  I want them to be able to enjoy those activities without having to rush and do homework BUT please please please keep reading every night at home because we will still read and work in class.  I will continue to send the weekly newsletter in the red folder on Monday's.  Please continue to check your child's backpack daily just in case I send folders home with important school information during the week.  Thanks parents for all of your support and help throughout the year!  We couldn't have done it without you!

                               STEMS Activity!  Stacking up recyclables!

This week we will read "Henry and Mudge." It is realistic fiction that has settings that can seem real but the story is made up. Our reading skills are to blend and read words with suffixes -ly, -ful; cause and effect; adjectives that compare; read words with vowel sound oo; and practice Saxon Phonics.

In Math we will measure using nonstandard units of measurement.  We will measure with marshmallows, paper clips, beans, goldfish, etc.

In Science we will continue our study of plants.  During this unit we will learn what plants need to survive, and identify plant parts.

In Social Studies we will learn more about maps, and be able to locate places on a map.  We will learn about the seven continents and create a world map and identify their locations on the map.
