January 2-6, 2017 Week 18

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I hope that you had a nice winter break and are ready for the second half of the school year!  Tuesday will be day 79!  As we transition back to school we will review some previous skills and prepare for next week's Unit Reading Test. We will also read "The Mitten."  We will sequence the story events, BUT the best part of all is we will make "Shake and Eat Ice Cream!" So if you have mittens please bring them on Friday.  As we shake the ice cream it gets very cold to our hands.  This will also be a great science activity as well because students will get to observe a liquid turn into a solid.

We will read "A Place to Play."  It is realistic fiction that tells about made-up things that could happen in real life.  Our reading skills are to read the long vowel sounds of y, for example long i sound as in try, long e sound as in puppy; sequence story events; identify action verbs; and practice Saxon Phonics.

In Math we will compose and decompose numbers up to 120.

In Science we will explore the natural sources of water.  We will identify oceans, rivers, lakes, and ponds.  We will learn about fresh water and salt water.

In Social Studies we will study the past.
