December 1-5, 2014 Week 14

Welcome back everybody!   I hope that you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving!  I ate, then slept, then ate, then slept some more.  LOL!!!

This week we will be reading "Honey Bees."  It is a nonfiction story that teaches about the life of honey bees.  We will compare and contrast stories; identify nouns in sentences; blend and read long e, ee words; discuss antonyms; discuss alliteration ex: Teeny Tiny Teacher; and practice our daily Saxon phonics lessons.

In Language Arts we will write a letter to Santa. I know that Santa is very busy but I hope that his elves will write us back.  :)

In math we will compare and order numbers up to 99 using place value on an open number line.  The open number line is a new skill that was added to the first grade curriculum.

In Science we will explore the natural world.  Our focus will be identifying and comparing types of rocks.  We will take a nature walk and bring rocks from home to share in class.

In Social Studies we will discuss good citizens that have shaped our community, state, and nation.

We still have plenty of snacks to last until the Christmas break. I will send a January snack calendar with your child before the break.

Upcoming Events...
Each Thursday in December your child may wear a holiday shirt with jeans AND a spirit shirt and jeans on Fridays!  Ho Ho Ho!

December 16 we will watch the movie "Frozen" and students may wear pajamas.
